  • If you own a diesel anywhere near Berea, KY, save yourself the trouble and call Preston Jones at PJ Diesel. I brought him my 2021 Silverado Duramax (L5P) and the whole experience was as good as it gets. Preston is honest and upfront with you from the first conversation. He got back to me fast every time I reached out, and the turnaround on my truck was quick. He knows these trucks inside and out, and his pricing is fair. He came in less expensive than a lot of other shops, and the work is excellent. What really sets him apart is how he treats his customers after the job is done. Any time I've wanted to pick his brain about my truck since then, he's been glad to share what he knows. My truck is running better than it ever has. I'm in Richmond, and I would've driven a lot farther than that for work this good. A reliable diesel mechanic you can trust is hard to find, and I couldn't ask for anything better. I'd recommend PJ Diesel to anyone in Madison County or beyond.

About Diesel Truck Service

Common questions and tips from our work with Berea customers.

Do you only work on Duramax trucks?
No. We service all brands, including Chevy and GMC Duramax, Ford Power Stroke and Ram Cummins pickups, plus equipment and semis. Call and tell us what you're running.
How often should I change the oil in my diesel truck?
Most modern diesel pickups use an oil life monitor that adjusts the interval based on how the truck is driven. Towing, heavy loads, lots of idling and dusty roads shorten it. Follow the monitor and your owner's manual, and lean toward changing it sooner if the truck works hard.

Tip

Treat fuel before cold Kentucky nights

Diesel fuel can gel when temperatures drop hard, and water in the fuel can freeze in lines and filters. In cold months, buy winter-blend diesel when you can, use an anti-gel additive, and keep the tank from sitting near empty. Drain the water separator when the warning light comes on. A fresh fuel filter going into winter also helps the truck start on cold mornings.

Tip

Keep the coolant in shape when you tow

A diesel works hard when towing, and old or wrong coolant can lead to overheating and corrosion inside the engine. Check the coolant level and condition, and flush it at the interval in your manual.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have your truck's year, make, model and engine size on hand. If you're getting a check-engine light or you've heard a new sound, describe it. If you know your current mileage, that helps too. We'll ask a few questions to understand the problem before you drive in.

We're open 24 hours, 7 days a week, but it's always a good idea to call first. That way we can talk through the issue and make sure we have what we need to get your truck running right when you arrive.

We plug into your truck's computer, read all the fault codes, and run tests to isolate the real problem. We'll also inspect the engine, fuel system and turbo by hand. Then we explain what we found and what it costs to fix it before we do any work.

Diesel engines are different from gas engines. The fuel system, the turbo, the injectors, the fuel pressure all run different. We work on all brands, including equipment and semis, so we find problems other shops miss and get your diesel running strong.

We offer service for all brands, not just Duramax, including equipment and semis. Call and tell us what you're running.

We're based in Berea and serve the Madison County area including Richmond, Waco and surrounding communities. We're open 24 hours, so people drive from farther out when they need diesel work they trust.

Fair means we tell you the truth about what your truck needs, quote you honest labor and parts, and don't pad the bill. We aim to come in well versus other shops and deliver work that lasts. Call with your truck's issue and ask for a quote.
